India vs Australia Boxing Day Test ticket sales smash records | Cricket News
Cricket Australia has revealed that the ticket sales for Australia’s Boxing Day Test in Melbourne this year against India have reached unprecedented heights.
The host association has shared that the opening day sales have tripled as compared to 2018/19. The game was played in front of only 30,000 spectators at the 100,000 plus capacity stadium during the 2020/21 tours owing to Covid-19 restrictions.
CA further stated that the sales for days 2-4 are also up an impressive 5.5 times increase from India’s 2018/19 tour Down Under.
“The Border Gavaskar series is a highly anticipated event and current ticket sales demonstrate there is enormous interest in the upcoming contest between Australia and India,” said Joel Morrison, Executive General Manager, Events & Operations at CA.
“Tickets are selling fast for all five Tests as excitement continues to build for the summer ahead, so we’re encouraging fans to buy tickets now to ensure they don’t miss out on any of the action,” he added.
Another metric which is telling is increase in the number of tickets bought fans hailing from India – 3.9 percent as opposed to a mere 0.7 percent in 2018/19.
“We also continue to see strong sales from Indian fans as well as Australian fans, presenting a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the enduring connection between our two countries both on and off the field, with a large contingent of travelling fans expected to attend Tests across the summer,” said Morrison.
The India-Australia five-Test series will begin November 22 with the first match between the two teams to be played in Perth. The caravan will then shift to Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and finally Sydney, which will host the traditional New Year’s Test.
