Cyclone Dana: CAB writes to Jay Shah, requests him to defer Bengal home matches | Cricket News

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Wednesday wrote to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah, requesting him to defer the home matches of the senior Bengal team and Bengal Under-23 team, scheduled on October 26 and 27 respectively, a couple of days as the fixtures were expected to be hampered Cyclone Dana.
“The Cricket Association of Bengal has written to Jay Shah, Honorary Secretary, BCCI to defer the home matches of Senior Bengal and Bengal Under-23 scheduled on October 26th and October 27th respectively a couple of days as the city is expected to be impacted Cyclone Dana,” CAB said in a press release.
The Bengal senior team is scheduled to take on Kerala in the Ranji Trophy match at the JU 2nd Campus Ground, Salt Lake on Saturday while the Bengal U-23 team is expected to take on Railways at Bengal Cricket Academy, Kalyani on Sunday.
On Wednesday, rain lashed Kolkata and adjoining dricts as Dana moved northwestwards on Wednesday — and early on Friday, it is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over northwestern Bay of Bengal, an IMD official said.
“Cyclone Dana is likely to cross the northern Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island between Thursday night and Friday morning,” the official said.
The dricts likely to experience the storm’s harshest effects include South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, and Purba Medinipur, along with coastal areas and neighbouring dricts like Paschim Medinipur, Bankura, Jhargram, and Hooghly.

The West Bengal government is bracing for the storm’s impact, having already asked schools in eight dricts to remain closed from October 23 to 26.
