DC IPL 2025 retained and released players: With question marks hovering around the captaincy of Rishabh Pant, it remains to be seen whether the 2020 finals will pers with the T20 World Cup-winning keeper-batter for the upcoming auction cycle.
For DC, other players who are likely to be retained are all-rounder Axar Patel, swashbuckling Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk, and wr spinner Kuldeep Yadav.
In their previous auction cycle, Delhi had retained Pant, Axar, Anrich Nortje and Prithvi Shaw.
While Pant and Axar, both of whom were part of India’s T20 World Cup winning campaign earlier this summer, are still in contention to be retained, it is unlikely that Delhi will pers with Nortje and Shaw, both of whom have had a sluggish couple of seasons as DC have finished in the bottom half of the points table.
Having reached the final in 2020, and finished among the top two the following year, Delhi finished fifth, ninth and sixth in the last three seasons.
The player retentions become significantly important going into the new mega auction cycle of three years starting from IPL 2025. Teams are allowed to retain a maximum of six players and have an overall allotted budget of 120 crores for the retention as well as mega auction.
If a franchise opts to retain six players, they can retain a maximum of five capped and two uncapped players in either the 5+1 or 4+2 combination. While the capped players are segregated into three brackets ranging from Rs 18 crore to Rs 11 crore, an uncapped player can be retained at Rs 4 crore.
