CSK IPL 2025 retained and released players:Chennai Super Kings will head into another cycle of the IPL, but not without their forever talisman, MS Dhoni.
The 43-year-old Dhoni is all but slated to continue his playing career with CSK as he is expected to be slated for Rs 4 crore, with the Super Kings availing the modified uncapped player retention rule. According to the rule, the uncapped player l will also include internationals who have not featured in any match for India in the last five years or have not attained a BCCI central contract in the same period.
With Dhoni slotting in at this spot, CSK are expected to pay the big bucks to captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sri Lanka pace Matheesha Pathirana, with Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube and Rachin Ravindra also in the fray.
At the start of their previous auction cycle in 2022, CSK had retained Dhoni, Jadeja, Gaikwad and Moeen Ali.
The player retentions become significantly important going into the new mega auction cycle of three years starting from IPL 2025. Teams are allowed to retain a maximum of six players and have an overall allotted budget of Rs 120 crore for the retention as well as mega auction.
If a franchise opts to retain six players, they can retain a maximum of five capped and two uncapped players in either the 5+1 or 4+2 combination. While the capped players are segregated into three brackets ranging from Rs 18 crore to Rs 11 crore, an uncapped player can be retained at Rs 4 crore.
