GT IPL 2025 retained and released players: One-time champion Gujarat Titans are set to retain their captain Shubman Gill ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction 2024.
The franchise made its debut in 2022 and won the IPL trophy in its inaugural season. It followed this up with a final appearance in 2023, but it lost the game of the final ball.
However, for the 2024 season, the franchise had to let go of skipper Hardik Pandya to the Mumbai Indians, and Shubman Gill was made the skipper of the side.
The loss of Hardik has affected the side’s overall balance, with them ending up eighth on the table after two successful seasons. In addition to the star all-rounder the side also missed the services of Mohammed Shami due to an injury for the entire 2024 season.
The player retentions become significantly important going into the new mega auction cycle of three years starting from IPL 2025. Teams are allowed to retain a maximum of six players and have an overall allotted budget of Rs 120 crore for the retention as well as mega auction.
If a franchise opts to retain six players, they can retain a maximum of five capped and two uncapped players in either the 5+1 or 4+2 combination. While the capped players are segregated into three brackets ranging from Rs 18 crore to Rs 11 crore, an uncapped player can be retained at Rs 4 crore.
