India A accused of ball-tampering during defeat to Australia A in 1st unofficial Test; Ishan Kishan reported for dissent | Cricket News
The fourth day of the India A-Australia A unofficial Test at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay began on a controversial note when the on-field umpires changed the ball used the visitors after ball-tampering allegations.
Shortly before Sunday’s play began with Australia A requiring 86 runs to win, the India A players were seen questioning umpire Shawn Craig about the ball handed over to resume proceedings.
“When you scratch it, we change the ball. No more discussion, let’s play,” Craig was heard saying on the stump microphone.
While the Indian players attempted to argue, Craig said, “No more discussion; let’s play. This is not a discussion.”
When the players asked if they would continue playing with the freshly handed ball, the umpire reaffirmed: “You’re playing with that ball.”
According to AAP, India A wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan was then reported for showing dissent to umpire Craig’s decision. Kishan stated that it was a “really stupid decision.”
“You will be on report for dissent. That’s inappropriate behaviour. It is because of your (team) actions we changed the ball,” the umpire responded.
Kishan, who has not featured in India colours since November 2023, was marking his return to the national radar after a year.
While Kishan was reported for dissent, it is unclear whom the umpires have accused of ball-tampering as yet.
Led captain Nathan McSweeney’s unbeaten 88 off 178 balls, Australia A cruised to the 224-run target with seven wickets to spare.
Earlier, had put on 312 in their second-innings after conceding an 85-run first-innings lead to the hosts. Sai Sudharsan (103) shone with his second consecutive First-Class ton while Devdutt Padikkal put on 88 before a lower-order collapse curtailed India A’s innings.
The teams are slated to play the second unofficial Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground from November 7.
