After Man City drubbing, Ruben Amorim looking forward to the Premier League | Football News
The hopes of a long-awaited revival for the Manchester United camp got a shot in the arm after Sporting Lisbon’s 4-1 Champions League victory over Manchester United on Tuesday. Sporting is currently coached Portuguese Ruben Amorim, who is soon on the way to United, where he will have his task cut out. It’s been a sob story for the English club ever since Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down in 2013 but Amorim’s signing has reignited the hopes of revival.
The 39-year-old coach is already being called the “new Alex Ferguson” some but he feels it is very early to earn a comparison with a legendary coach. After Sporting’s victory against Pep Guardiola’s City, Amorim said he looks forward to his English campaign.
“It’s misleading, we were very lucky today, but the feeling with my players, the way they celebrate with the fans was very special. I take this with me but when I arrive to the Premier League it is a different world, different pressure. It will be fun, very fun, and I’m ready for the challenge,” the 39-year-old said after Tuesday’s Champions League victory.
Talks are also rife about him bringing Viktor Gyokeres with him to Manchester. Gyokeres was the star of Tuesday’s victory as he scored three goals in the comeback win. The Swedish striker has 23 goals in 17 games so far this season.
“Viktor has to stay until the end of the season. And then his life maybe is going somewhere else,” said Amorim.
Sporting ended Manchester City’s 26-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League and consigned Guardiola’s club to its third straight defeat in all competitions.
