Rachael Gunn, a.k.a Raygun, announces retirement amidst ‘upsetting’ experiences after Paris Olympics 2024 | Cricket News

Australian break dancer Rachael Gunn has announced her retirement after an “upsetting” experience amidst the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Gunn also known as B-Girl Raygun after her performance in the inaugural breaking event at the Olympics faced severe criticism. She became a meme for her dance moves during her performance.
Raygun faced relentless trolling on the internet which then mushroomed into siner conspiracy theories about how she had qualified for the Olympics to begin with.
“I’m not going to compete anymore,” on Jimmy & Nath Show on Australia’s 2DayFM.
“I was going to keep competing, for sure, but that seems really difficult for me to do now to approach a battle. Yeah, I mean I still dance, and I still break. But, you know, that’s like in my living room with my partner.”
“It’s been really upsetting. I just didn’t have any control over how people saw me or who I was,” she further added.
Raygun has also decided to cash in on the online vitriol: throwing down the gauntlet at her haters and asking them to prove that they are better dancers than her.
Raygun recently launched an online collaboration with a service called Finder where the best solo dancer will win $5000, while $10,000 is up for grabs for the best dance crew of two or more people.
“I’ve heard some of you can do better than me. Really? Let’s find out, shall we?” the breakdancer said in a promotional video before bursting into a dance.
How Raygun became a Haloween hit
She also went to an event in Australia on Halloween where fans mimicked her attire and her infamous dance moves.
In an interview with Fox 101.9 Melbourne’s Fifi, Fev and Nick for Breakfast, Raygun spoke about leaving her home for Haloween and spotting people trick-or-treating with Raygun costumes.
“I was coming home from the shops yesterday and I saw someone dressed as me out trick-or-treating with their kids. I wound down the window and I was like, ‘I love your costume’, and they were stunned,” she said.
