One of the hottest names the last time the IPL Mega Auctions took place in 2022, England pacer Jofra Archer’s name was missing in the 574-players’ l for the upcoming auctions.
Mumbai Indians had bought Archer at the 2022 mega auction for Rs 8 crore and after being entirely absent in the first season, Archer played just four matches in 2023 season before heading home after a recurrence of the elbow injury.
Meanwhile, former England international James Anderson is in the l, becoming the oldest player to be a part of the auctions while Australia all rounder Cameron Green will also miss out due to an injury set to keep him out of next season’s tournament.
BCCI on Friday announced that 574 players are set to feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Mega Auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24 & 25. Out of them, 366 are Indians and 208 are overseas players which includes 3 players from associate nations. The auction will include 318 Indian uncapped players and 12 uncapped overseas players.
Also, 204 slots will be up for grabs with 70 available slots for overseas players while Rs 2 Crore is the highest reserve price with 81 players opting to be in the highest bracket. The auction will have two marquee player sets at the start with Jos Buttler, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh and Mitchell Starc in Marquee Set 1, while Yuzvendra Chahal, Liam Livingstone, David Miller, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami & Mohammed Siraj in Marquee Set 2.
When the IPL retention window shut recently, a total of 46 players had been retained between the 10 IPL franchises. For these retentions, the 10 teams had invested a cumulative total of Rs 558.5 crore.
