Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has appointed Mumbai’s senior men’s team coach Omkar Salvi as their fast bowling coach for the 2025 IPL season, Indian Express has learnt. Salvi, a well-known name on the domestic circuit in the past has worked as assant coach with IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders.
Salvi wasn’t part of any franchise cricket, post his KKR stint as he was contracted with Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). His contract with Mumbai comes to an end in March 2025 as the head coach.
“He has been appointed as bowling coach for RCB for the forthcoming season, he has expertise and has worked with other franchises too,” a source confirmed. RCB will be making an official announcement for the same soon.
Salvi is the brother of former India pacer Avishkar Salvi. Under his tenure, the Mumbai team won the Ranji Trophy last season and he is known to be a coach, who likes to stay behind the scene. Salvi played only one L A game for Railways against Madhya Pradesh in 2005.
Earlier, this year the franchise had appointed Dinesh Karthik as their batting coach and mentor for the 2025 season. Karthik and Salvi have worked together for KKR in the past too. RCB is looking for fresh backroom staff, who can guide them towards winning their maiden title in the league.
With a fresh mega auction coming up in few days’ time, they will hope to break the jinx of three finals, no titles, and find a team which can lead them towards victory in the IPL.
