OnePlus 5T uses Samsung-made screen just like iPhone X, OnePlus co-founder takes dig at Pixel 2 XL screen woes

onePlus last night launched the OnePlus 5T, its new flagship phone. Although in many ways, no make it most ways, the new phone is similar to the OnePlus 5, there is one big difference between the two. This is the screen. It is also the most dazzling part of the OnePlus 5T. Its screen is brilliant. Apparently, that is because OnePlus really wanted to get the screen right and waited for it to get right.

This was revealed by the OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei. In conversation with the India Today Tech on the sidelines of the OnePlus 5T launch, Pei revealed that the 6-inch OLED screen in the OnePlus 5T has been made by Samsung, which also makes the excellent screens for the Galaxy S8 and the iPhone X. Given that this is a Samsung panel is probably the reason why the OnePlus 5T screen is so good.

This also puts the spotlight back on the Google Pixel 2 XL, a phone that is going through a tough time because of its OLED screen woes. incidentally, the Pixel 2 XL also has a 6-inch screen with same 18:9 aspect ratio. But then its screen has been sourced from LG.

In fact, Pei took a dig at the Pixel 2 XL without naming it while introducing the OnePlus 5T. He said that OnePlus really wanted to get the screen on its phone right and hence waited until it could source the quality panels.

He said, “The screen in the OnePlus 5T is amazing. I know we are a little late to the game. We are not the first brand to come out with an immersive screen. But most of you who are here are aware of some of the recent controversies surrounding smartphone displays.”

He added, “We all know how hard it is to get the screen right. We wanted to wait until we can get the quality screens that matches our expectations and yours.”

The Pixel 2 XL. which was launched by Google, has faced criticism due to its screen, which tends to show blue tint when looked at certain angles and has slightly more muted colours. Google has promised to roll out a fix for the screen through a software update. Some users have got the update, while a few others are waiting for it. However, the questions about its screen have affected an otherwise fantastic phone. The Pixel 2 XL has superb software and the best camera in a phone ever seen. But the screens matter, apparently.

The OnePlus 5T, apart from the screen, is mostly identical to the OnePlus 5. It has been introduced with the starting price of Rs 32,999 and it will go on sale in India from November 21, although that will be a sale open to limited number of people. The regular, open sale, of the OnePlus 5T will start from November 28.
