‘He did the whole shaking hands in a conga line’: Former Aussie wicket-keeper calls out chief selector George Bailey | Cricket News

With Australia suffering its one of heaviest defeats at home soil with the 295-run loss against India in the opening Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) at Perth, former Australian wicket-keeper Ian Healy has called out Australia’s chief selector George Bailey for shaking hands with the Indian team post the loss and spending time in the Australian dressing room. Bailey, who has been the chairman of selectors since 2021, was seen shaking hands with the Indian team post one of Australia’s heaviest defeats in terms of runs at home soil.
“He went out and shook hands with everyone, he did the whole shaking hands in a conga line. I would be thinking if I’m an Indian cricketer, ‘What do I need to shake your hand for, you’re the chairman of selectors? I just want to hurry up and get this win celebrated’.” Healy said on Sen Cricket.
The Perth loss was India’s biggest ever win in terms of runs against Australia in Australia and it also meant that the Australian team lost the opening Test of a series at home for only the fourth time in this century. Since Bailey became the chairman of selectors in 2021, Australia’s record in Test cricket has been 18 wins, six draws and six losses. The former Australian cricketer also drew criticism from Sen Cricket commentator Pat Welsh. “What’s the Chairman of Selectors doing sitting there in a tracksuit? He should be in a corporate box somewhere watching and taking notes,” said Welsh.
The commentator also termed Bailey’s time as ‘limited’ if the Australian team suffers another defeat in the Pink ball test at Adelaide starting December 6. “I’m a little bit more sympathetic, I’m willing to cut him a slack, but maybe if we’re going down the same path in Adelaide, then I’ll tell you what his time might be limited,” said Welsh.
