Benfica’s Angel Di Maria surpassed Argentina teammate Lionel Messi to rise up to the second position on the l of all time asss at the Champions League. He has 41 asss, one more than Messi and just one shy of Criano Ronaldo.
In the match against Monaco in the Champions League on Wednesday, Di Maria assed twice to help his team win the match with a score of 3-2. Benfica were trailing 2-1 when in the 84th minute from the left flank, Di Maria sent the ball spinning in the air and into the box with teammate Arthur Carbral scoring a header for the equaliser.
The show wasn’t done yet though, as Di Maria struck again in 89th minute, this time from the right as he whipped in sumptuous cross to Zeki Amdouni who headed the ball above the keeper and into the net to for the late winner.
The 36-year-old winger’s performance was lauded the entire stadium and he eventually won a well deserving Player of the Match after carefully stitching a well deserved comeback win at the Stade Louis II stadium.
Di Maria has been in fantastic form lately, scoring five goals and three asss in his last five appearances. With a lot of matches left in the UCL, chances are high that he will soon go past ex-Real Madrid teammate Ronaldo and top the l of asss.

Meanwhile, due to the loss Monaco missed out on going 2nd in the Champions League table with Inter now in that spot behind leaders Liverpool.
