Jasprit Bumrah injury scare: India pacer goes down in 20th over, recovers to dismiss Pat Cummins | Cricket News
India faced a massive Saturday scare at the Adelaide Oval as pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah broke down mid-way into his 20th over of Australia’s innings in the Pink-Ball Test.
Four deliveries into his 20th over, Bumrah went down with some discomfort in his legs. The physios rushed in immediately, forcing a stoppage in play. Three support staff were seen working on the groin area and bowling shoulder as Bumrah winced in pain.
Bumrah soon gathered himself up before centurion Travis Head flicked him for four. While Mohammed Siraj cleaned up Head in the next over, Bumrah returned to continue his spell, dousing the jitters that may his niggle may have caused the team management and fans alike.
In his second over upon resuming his bowling, Bumrah cleaned up Australia captain Pat Cummins for his fourth wicket as Australia moved to the dinner break at 332/8 with a 142-run lead over the visitors.
Bumrah has been India’s seam spearhead in the absence of Mohammed Shami. Bumrah, who turned 31 on Friday, led India to a stunning 295-run win in Perth as he picked up figures of 8/72 in the Test. The eight-wicket haul was the best-ever figures a visiting fast-bowling captain in a Test in Australia.
Bumrah erased the Australia top-order in their first-innings in Adelaide too. After dismissing Usman Khawaja overnight, Bumrah opened the morning session with wickets of Nathan McSweeney and Steve Smith. Bumrah also went past the 50-wicket mark in Tests this year, the only bowler to achieve the mark in 2024. He is also only the third Indian fast bowler after Kapil Dev (twice) and Zaheer Khan to pick 50 wickets in a calendar year.
