Border-Gavaskar Trophy: Record rainfall in Brisbane raises weather concerns ahead of third Test | Cricket News
When the Indian team reaches Brisbane for the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, they will be greeted gloomy, wet skies.
Brisbane recorded its second-heaviest day of rainfall for 2024 — and its wettest since February — in the 24 hours up to 9 am Wednesday, receiving a rainfall of 75.8m. This raises concerns about the weather for the Test, starting Saturday, December 14.
The rains were reported to be ‘unusual’ for December, making Brisbane the ‘wettest place in the whole of Queensland, according to Weatherzone.
However, the website added that the skies will be clear the start of play at the Gabba on Saturday. The chances of rain for the first day are around 20 per cent and roughly a 50 per cent chance of a storm. For the rest of the days, it hovers around 30 per cent.
Weatherzone reported that the humidity levels ‘will be oppressive’, ranging between 60 per cent to 95 per cent throughout the five scheduled days of play.’
The heavy rain on Tuesday and the possibility of more in the coming days have raised the prospect of a lively pitch and seam-friendly conditions at the Gabba. During the last tour, in 2020-21, India won the Test comfortably with Rishabh Pant playing one of his finest knocks.
Come Saturday, India will hope for more of the same as the Rohit-Sharma-led side hopes for a turnaround following a morale-sapping loss in the Adelaide Test, which left the five-match series tantalisingly poised at 1-1.
