India’s premier off-spinner R Ashwin announced his international retirement after the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Australia on Wednesday, ending a successful 14-year career at the top of the mark across formats.

Here is a look at Ashwin’s prolific career in numbers: 
765 – Ashwin’s international wicket-tally is only bettered Anil Kumble (956) among Indian bowlers. Overall, Ashwin’s tally holds 11th on the all-time l across formats.
537  – Ashwin’s Test wicket-tally is the second-highest for India, behind Kumble’s 619.
1 – Ashwin was the first bowler to reach 100 wickets in the World Test Championship, reaching the mark in March 2022.
195 – Ashwin retires as the highest wicket-taker in the World Test Championship across three editions.
37  – Ashwin’s 37 Test five-fors are only bettered Muttiah Muralidaran (67) in Test cricket.
