Ashwin Shares Retirement Day Phone Log: Calls from India greats Sachin and Kapil Dev | Cricket News
R. Ashwin shared a screenshot of his call log on the day of his retirement, revealing that legendary figures like Sachin Tendulkar and Kapil Dev had reached out to him. In a post on X, the off-spinner wrote:
“If someone had told me 25 years ago that I would have a smartphone and the call log on the last day of my career as an Indian cricketer would look like this ☺️☺️, I would have had a heart attack then and there. Thanks.”
The spinner announced his retirement on Wednesday, shortly after the third India vs Australia Test match ended in a draw. His decision to step away in the middle of the series, with two Tests still remaining, raised some eyebrows—especially since the conditions in the fifth Test were expected to favor spinners.
In the three Tests during the series in Australia, Ashwin featured in only one. He retired from the Indian cricket team with an impressive 537 Test wickets, the second-highest tally for India, trailing only Anil Kumble’s 619.
Returning to Chennai on Thursday, Ashwin reassured fans that his cricketing journey is far from over.
Speaking to the media, the Indian cricket legend confirmed that he would continue playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League’s upcoming edition.
“I am going to play for CSK. Don’t be surprised if I try and aspire to play for as long as I can. I don’t think Ashwin the cricketer is done; I think Ashwin the Indian cricketer has probably called it time. That’s it,” Ashwin said.
