Sydney pitch rated ‘satisfactory’: A step in the right direction says Cricket Australia official | Cricket News
Australia has won the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 3-1. Across the five Tests, the teams have contested at five different venues, getting exposed to different conditions. ICC has rated the pitches for the first four Tests in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, and Melbourne as “very good,” which is the highest rating. Meanwhile, in Sydney, where the game ended in two and a half days on a green seaming wicket, ICC has rated the pitch as ‘satisfactory,’ which is the second highest category.
“The SCG has been striving to bring out their unique characterics of early pace and bounce before the pitch wears and spins. This year was a step in the right direction to achieving this which provided an exciting finish to the Border Gavaskar Trophy series and bodes well for the Ashes summer in 2025-26 said Peter Roach, CA Head of Cricket Operations and Scheduling.
“We are delighted the quality of pitches produced,” Roach said. “We encourage pitches that bring out the unique characterics of that venue and this has long been a feature of Australian cricket. We strongly believe that this is one of the reasons that Test cricket is so popular in Australia. We don’t look to prepare wickets that favor the home side or suit our situation in a series. We seek a good contest between bat and ball and pitches that are likely to produce a result,” he added.
Australia after losing two back-to-series at home against India have won their first bilateral Test series since 2014/15. India though started well in Perth smashing the hosts 295 runs Australia made a resounding comeback in Adelaide winning with 10 wickets.
Thanks to rain the Third Test in Brisbane the game ended up in a draw. The fourth Test at MCG which seemed like a draw till the final session of the Test match saw India capitulating and losing the Test 184 runs with an hour in the game left. Going into the final Test India had a chance to level the series and retain the trophy but could not match Australia and lost six wickets.
