Jurgen Klopp on Manchester City if proven guilty of financial breaches alleged Premier League: ‘I’ll buy the beer’ | Football News

Jurgen Klopp has finished second twice during his tenure as Liverpool in the Premier League after an intense fight against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. Though they did clinch the title once Man City did it five times.
However, in February 2023 Premier League slapped 115 allegations for financial breaches against Manchester City. The hearing between both Premier League and Man City started in September 2024 and the verdict of the trial is expected early this year.
Jurgen Klopp jokingly said, if Man City is found guilty “I’ll buy the beer” as Liverpool could get a few titles.
“Whatever we have to celebrate, we would do it, in good weather, we would have our parade in my garden,” Klopp said in his first press conference as Red Bull’s head of global soccer.
“We will see. I didn’t follow it at all. I’m really surprised that you’ve told me it’s that close. Two months? Wow. Let’s see,” he added.
City’s alleged breaches stretch from the 2009-10 season to the 2017-18 campaign, the league said in February 2023.
The club, who were acquired City Football Group in 2008, are also charged with failing to cooperate with and ass the Premier League in its investigation, which was launched in December 2018.
City are alleged to have breached rules relating to the provision of accurate financial information, “in particular with respect to its revenue (including sponsorship revenue), its related parties and its operating costs,” the league said.
League rules state that charges such as those faced City could, if proved, result in a club being expelled from the Premier League in the worst-case scenario.
Offending clubs may alternately be deducted points, fined, or reprimanded.
