Donald Trump says female senator would do anything for money
US President Donald Trump has come in limelight again for accusation of sexual harassment on him , this time by New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
The President, however, has fended off the allegation saying Gillibrand had come to his office come to his office “begging” for campaign contributions and “would do anything” to get them.
Trump on Tuesday had said of Gillibrand: “Lightweight Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a total flunky for Chuck Schumer and someone who would come to my office “begging” for campaign contributions not so long ago (and would do anything for them), is now in the ring fighting against Trump. Very disloyal to Bill & Crooked-USED!”
Gillibrand, a potential presidential contender for 2020, had called Trump’s attack a “sexist smear attempting to silence my voice.” The senator tweeted, “President Trump should resign. But, of course, he won’t hold himself accountable. Therefore, Congress should investigate the multiple sexual harassment and assault allegations against him.”
Defending the president, the White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said “there is no way that this is sexist at all,” and suggested the tweet could be considered sexually charged “only if your mind is in the gutter.” Sanders insisted that Trump was only denouncing Gillibrand’s role in Washington political culture and had no other intentions.
Sanders added that Trump often derides “the swamp” of campaign finance and has previously too tweeted about politicians “begging” for donations.
According to federal campaign finance records, Trump had donated $4,800 to Gillibrand’s Senate campaign in 2010. Before launching his presidential campaign, he frequently bestowed donations on politicians of both parties.
