Despite the vast cultural differences and Amir’s initial expectations that the meeting would be short-lived, their bond grew stronger over time. Amir shared that Sufiah, who knew of his loneliness, would prepare meals for him and bring them to a near subway station. Amir recalled feeling honoured, though slightly nervous, when she asked him to lead the Tarawih prayer for her and her mother – an experience he had never had before.
