Owen Coyle confronts Robin Singh over red card: ‘That’s why you’re there… to give your opinion’ | Football News

Chennaiyin FC head coach Owen Coyle was an angry man after his side lost 1-3 to Kerala Blasters FC in an Indian Super League game on Thursday night at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Chennai.
Owen Coyle’s team was reduced to ten men after Wilmar Jordan Gil was red carded in the 37th minute. The Blasters were 1-0 up at that point and used the numerical advantage to race to a 3-0 lead. It was only a consolation goal from Vincy Barretto in the second-half stoppage time that went the way of Chennaiyin FC on the night.
Chennaiyin FC are now 10th in the standings after 19 games with 18 points.

An angry Owen Coyle confronted commentator and former India international Robin Singh over the red card in the post-match press conference.
“Are you telling me, Robin, that was a red card?” Owen Coyle said to Robin at the start of their post-match interaction on being asked what he thought of the game.
As Robin tried to deflect the question multiple times, asking Owen Coyle to “watch the replay again”, the Scottish manager got angry.
“Robin, I’m asking you now! You’re a man in football. I’m asking you: was that a red card?”Story continues below this ad
As Robin Singh tried to tell Coyle that he wanted to know his opinion, the Chennai team’s head coach doubled down.
“Sorry, sorry. That’s why you are there! To give an opinion! So I am asking you, was that a red card? I’m asking you as a football person. Just trying to have an honest conversation. Just give me your opinion,” Coyle said before calling the red card a “travesty”.

Owen Coyle added: “I have to go back and see the incident myself. But I know from my boys reaction, I know from what the owners (Chennaiyin FC owner Abhishek Bachchan) have told me and from my opinion, it was a horrendous decision.”
At the end of the conversation, Coyle bizarrely told Robin Singh: “You give an opinion on everything else. But you can’t give an opinion on that? I’m really disappointed with you. Your answer tells me that there was no red card but you are reluctant to say that.” Story continues below this ad
At this point, Robin Singh said that he thought it was a red card. Coyle dismissively laughed at this. “You and I will have a conversation when I see you back!”
