Ranji Trophy: Services record second-highest successful chase, openers set unbeaten 376-run partnership | Cricket News

The Services cricket team pulled off the second-highest successful chase in Ranji Trophy hory during the ongoing 2024-25 season against Odisha in their final league match at the DRIEMS Cricket Academy in Cuttack on Sunday.
In what has been a remarkable game, Service had initially managed only 19-run lead over Odisha after being bundled for 199 after the opposition’s 180 in the first innings. The home side then racked up 394 runs in the second innings to set a 376-run target for Services.
In a chase that began on day three, the Services team were led a record-breaking opening stand openers Shubham Rohilla and Suraj Vashisht who put on an unbeaten partnership lasting 85.4 overs. While Rohilla recorded his maiden First-Class and remained unbeaten on 209, the 246-ball 154* was Vashisht’s maiden ton in red-ball cricket. Their effort also marked the highest First-Class fourth-innings team score without losing a wicket (376/0).

Coincidentally, in the last league game of the previous season, the Railways cricket team had set the record for the highest successful Ranji Trophy chase, going a run better than Services’ effort to chase down 378 against Tripura at the MBB Stadium in Agartala.
The bonus point win helped Services leapfrog Odisha (17 points) and finish fourth in Elite Group A with 23 points. J&K (32 points) and Mumbai (29 points) secured the knockout spots from the group, with the quarter-finals slated to begin on February 8.
