England captain Jos Buttler on Sunday said that he has 4 impact subs at his disposal in a cheeky dig at India’s use of concussion sub Harshit Rana in the 4th T20I match.
“And our four impact subs today are Reham Ahmed, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Smith and Gus Atkinson,” Buttler said after winning the toss and putting India to bat first.
In the 4th match on Friday, India pacer Rana’s T20I debut as a concussion substitute replacing all-rounder Shivam Dube in the fourth T20I win over England in Pune had sparked a controversy among fans and pundits alike.

Match referee Javagal Srinath’s decision to approve Rana as a ‘like-for-like’ replacement for the hard-hitting Dube who scored a match-defining half-century did not go down well with England captain Jos Buttler after his missed out on levelling the series 15 runs.

The young Rana would turn up to be the thorn in the English chase, picking three wickets in four overs replacing Dube who was hit a short ball from Jamie Overton on the penultimate ball of India’s innings.
“It is not a like-for-like replacement. We don’t agree with that,” Buttler had told reporters after the match.
“Either Shivam Dube has put on about 25mph with the ball or Harshit’s really improved his batting. It’s part of the game and we really should have gone on to win the match, but we disagree with the decision,” Buttler added.
“There was no consultation [with us]. That’s something I was thinking as I came out to bat – who is Harshit on for? They said he is a concussion replacement, which I obviously disagreed with. It is not a like-for-like replacement. They said that the match referee had made the decision. We had no say in it or any part of it. But we’ll ask Javagal [Srinath] some questions just to get some clarity around it.

“Like I said, it was not the whole reason why we did not win the match. We had our chances to win the game which we could have still taken. But I’d like to have a bit more clarity on that.”
