Pettit with varied experience in the field of astronomy. From 1984 to 1996, he worked as a staff scient at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, New Mexico. “He was a member of the Synthesis Group, a presidential commission lead Lt. Gen. (Ret.) It was designed Chicago-based architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
