After MI, LSG owners buy stake in Manchester Originals | Cricket News

Indian owners’ footprint in The Hundred keeps growing as RPSG group, owned Sanjiv Goenka won the bid to own stakes in the Manchester Originals team. After losing out on bids to buy Oval Invincibles and London Spirits in the earlier rounds last week, Goenka has managed to acquire 49% stakes in the team which will have Old Trafford as its home.
According to reports, Goenka is also in talks to buy further stakes in the team from Lancashire which currently holds the remaining 51%. Reports indicate that 70% stake has been agreed and a confirmation is expected in the coming days with the Originals earning a full valuation of around £116m. Goenka also holds the Lucknow Super Giants franchise in the IPL which is the costliest team acquired in the tournament.
“We have been very focused on securing a great partner – ideally from the IPL – and RPSG has been our preferred bidder for some time,” read a statement from Lancashire. “We are delighted the outcome and look forward to working together to create an exciting future. Together, we have a shared ambition to create a very special cricket team for the people of Manchester and the wider north-west region.”

After acquiring LSG in 2021, the RPSG have their presence in SA20 through Durban Super Giants and The Hundred is the latest investment.
So far in The Hundred’s auction, Mumbai Indians owners Reliance India Limited have acquired The Oval Invincibles while a consortium of Silicon Valley executives which includes Sundar Pichai and Satya Nadella have bought London Spirits for a record sum of £144m.
Later on Tuesday, Northern Superchargers, Trent Rockets and Southern Brave are up for grabs. Among those parties interested in buying stakes in the Brave include GMR Group, the co-owners of Delhi Capitals, which bought a majority stake in Hampshire last year. With Southampton as their base, Brave would be an addition to their investment.
Similarly, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad are also showing interest to be part of The Hundred and could be in contention for the other two teams.
