Everton player Abdoulaye Doucoure recently blasted former manager Frank Lampard for his treatment of him in the ex-England international’s stint at the Merseyside club. Doucoure, who was a prominent part of Lampard’s plans when he first started as manager in 2022, fell out of favour at the beginning of the 2023-24 Premier League season. He did not start a match until the January of 2023 when Lampard was sacked.
“He did not trust me. I really do not understand because this was my worst experience with the manager. Every manager started me, every manager trusted me. Frank Lampard was the only one who did not trust me and I think he made a make with me,” Doucoure said in an interaction with the Overlap.
“He was not fair with me. He left me on the bench for so many games and did not give me a chance. It upset me with him. There was no communication between me and him. He didn’t trust me and I think he made a make. I think I proved him wrong after that because under the new manager Sean Dyche I was the difference maker in the team. I think for him he was a great player, but as a manager with Everton it was a big lesson for him and I think he learned from that,” the Mali played added.
“He disrespected me — Everton was a big lesson, and he learnt from that!” 😬

Doucoure, who got a new lease of life after Sean Dyche was appointed as Everton manager, said that the treatment that Lampard meted out to him was disrespectful and it forced him to think about leaving the club.

“After one home game there was a big argument between me and him and the day after they said I can’t stay with the team – he felt disrespected me in front of the players. They said I had to train alone or with the U21s. I think he disrespected me a little bit. I was very close [to leaving]. I did not want it but the exit was very close. It was heartbreaking,” he said.
In the work front, Doucoure recently scored the fastest goal in the Premier League this season — after barely 10 seconds.
On February 1, Doucoure ran directly onto a long clearance from goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and took the ball into his stride before shooting low into the far corner to give Everton the lead against Leicester at Goodison Park. The goal was timed at 10.18 seconds the league’s statics supplier, Opta.
According to Opta, it was the earliest Everton has ever scored in the Premier League, the fourth-fastest goal in the competition’s hory and the quickest ever a home player.
