Watch: Donald Trump was asked ‘what is a woman’. His response | World News

US President Donald Trump declared that a woman is “someone who can have a ba,” doubling down on his adminration’s hardline stance against transgender rights during a press conference at the Oval Office on Sunday. Trump made the remark in response to a reporter’s provocative question on “what is a woman” during the Women’s Hory Month in the US.
The exchange occurred as Trump introduced Alina Habba as interim US attorney for New Jersey. When a reporter asked, “What’s a woman, and why does it matter to understand the difference between men and women?” the President responded with a mix of humour and conviction.
“Well, it’s sort of easy for me,” he responded as the room erupted in laughter. “A woman is somebody who can have a ba under any circumstances. She has a quality. A woman is a person who is much smarter than a man, I’ve always found. A woman is a person that doesn’t give a man even a chance of success.”

The discussion quickly shifted to transgender participation in women’s sports, a hot-button issue in the US. Trump called the inclusion of transgender women in female competitions “ridiculous and very unfair”.

Taking a swipe at Democrats, who advocate for trans rights, he remarked, “The other day, I watched a well-known Democratic congressman fighting for men to be allowed to compete in women’s sports. I say, I hope they keep that going because they never won another election. That’s a big yeah.”
Trump’s comments come weeks after he signed an executive order barring transgender women and girls from competing in women’s sports—a move his adminration framed as protecting fairness in athletics. Critics, however, have slammed the order as discriminatory, arguing that it further marginalises an already vulnerable community.
Earlier this year, Trump had already set the tone for his adminration’s gender policies signing an executive order recognising only two sexes—male and female—and declaring that they “can’t be changed.”
“As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female,” Trump had announced during his inauguration speech in January as he took over the White House for a second term.Story continues below this ad
This stance aligns with the broader conservative pushback against what Trump terms “radical gender ideology,” targeting the increasing visibility and rights of LGBTQIA+ individuals. The term LGBTQIA+ encompasses lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual persons, among others, who often challenge traditional gender norms.
Wrapping up his remarks, Trump added some praise for women, saying, “Women are incredible people who do so much for our country. We love our women, and we are going to take care of our women.”
