Kesari Chapter 2 trailer: Akshay Kumar emasculates General Dyer in high-stakes courtroom drama, sues the Crown for genocide | Bollywood News

Kesari Chapter 2, starring Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday, R Madhavan, dropped its trailer on Thursday. The film is based on the legal battle that happened after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre that happened on April 13, 1919. Akshay Kumar plays the lawyer named Sankaran Nair who sued the British empire for causing a “genocide” in Amitsar that resulted in the death of at least 1650 people.
As Akshay’s character questions General Dyer, he falsely claims that the crowd inside Jallianwala Bagh was full of terrors, and were carrying weapons. “What weapons did you see in the hands of eight-month-old babies? Their kadas? Or their clenched fs?” he questions. Akshay’s Sankaran Nair faces off against R Madhavan’s Neville McKinley, who is representing the British empire. Ananya Panday is also playing a lawyer in the film. The teaser claims that this was “the most shocking lie ever told”.

In the years since the massacre, there have been demands for an apology from the Britishers but Indians are still waiting for one. In 2019, British Prime Miner expressed her regret for the massacre but did not issue an apology for the same. The 2021 alleged assassination attempt Queen Elizabeth II was planned as a revenge to the 2019 massacre.

Previously, the 2021 film Sardar Udham, directed Shoojit Sircar, starring Vicky Kaushal, was also based on the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Here, Vicky’s character Sardar Udham madkes it his mission to assassinate Michael O’Dwyer, who was the Lieutenant Governor of Punjab in 1919.
