This celeb-approved egg and curd hair mask promises healthy hair

Want luscious hair like Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt to Nita Mukesh Ambani? Celebrity hairstyl, Amit Thakur reveals the truth behind the age-old remedy of using eggs and curd to bring back the bounce and glamour in your hair.
In a post made to Instagram, Thakur revealed the validity of applying curd and eggs to your hair. He captioned the post, “DIY masks might give your hair a quick boost, but when it comes to lasting results, it’s all about the right ingredients. Here’s why applying curd and eggs externally isn’t enough and what truly works for your hair health! Disclaimer: Please note that I am not a medical expert, and my insights are based solely on my personal experiences as a hairstyl. For any specific issues or concerns, I recommend consulting a medical professional.”

In the video, Thakur explains that while ingredients like curd or eggs may provide temporary shine and luster to your hair, they are not long-term solutions. These ingredients form a coating on the hair strand making it appear more shiny, giving an illusion of healthy hair. However, when the coating washes away, so does the shine.
Dr Sanjay Agarwal, a dermatolog at the CMRI Hospital in Kolkata explains that there are quite a few benefits of these hair masks ranging from frizz control, conditioning, and cleansing. However, they pose an equal amount of drawbacks to the user, including odour and limited shelf life.

These masks are proven to have advantages for the skin and hair. “While there is limited scientific research directly focused on curd and eggs for hair, these components have established advantages for skin and hair in traditional medicine. Eggs contain high levels of proteins and fatty acids that can help nourish and strengthen hair. Curd serves as a natural astringent, making it useful for cleansing and hydrating the hair. Both are known for their capacity to enhance texture, boost shine, and address dryness, though further scientific research is required to completely confirm their effects,” says Dr Agarwal.
Nonetheless, these products are not blanket solutions for all people. Dr Agarwal observes that “Curds and eggs may trigger allergic responses in certain people. Individuals with allergies to dairy or eggs might suffer from scalp irritation, itching, or redness.” He recommends doing a patch test to determine the safety of such DIY masks to ensure your safety.
Additionally, it is advisable to thoroughly rinse your scalp after the application to avoid foul odor and irritated skin. “Excessive use of natural masks may cause buildup, so it’s essential to apply them in moderation and as part of a balanced hair care routine. Ensure that you rinse the hair thoroughly after using these masks to prevent any remaining scent or buildup. Similar to any natural component, it is crucial to prevent curd or egg from entering the eyes, as they may lead to irritation,” said Dr Agarwal.
While celebrity hairstyl Amit Thakur believes otherwise, Dr Agarwal claims that these natural components such as curd and eggs offer nourishment free from harsh substances. He argues that they are free of preservatives, sulfates, and parabens, which are typically present in various commercial hair care items and may typically cause irritation in some people.Story continues below this ad
Regardless, commercial products are proven to show faster and more targeted results as opposed to the natural alternatives.
