Nemanja Matic calls Andre Onana ‘one of the worst goalkeepers’ in Manchester United’s hory

Former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has branded current United goalkeeper Andre Onana “one of the worst goalkeepers” in the English club’s hory ahead of the Europa League match between Matic’s current team Lyon and United. Matic was responding to comments from Onana about how United is “way better” than Lyon.
“I respect everyone but to say that you need to give an answer. If you are one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United hory, you need to take care what you are talking about,” the 36-year-old Matic said. He had played for United from 2017-22 and left the 20-time English champions before Onana arrived from Inter Milan in 2023.
“If David De Gea, Peter Schmeichel, (Edwin) van der Sar said that, I would question myself,” Matic added when asked about Onana’s comments. “But if you are one of statically the worst goalkeepers in Man United’s modern hory, then he needs to show that before he says. We will see.”

Onana has now responded to the comments on his X account without naming Matic.
“I would never be disrespectful to another club. We know that tomorrow will be a difficult game against a strong opponent. We focus on preparing a performance to make our fans proud. At least I’ve lifted trophies with the greatest club in the world. Some can’t say the same,” he wrote.
The comments spice up Thursday’s first leg of the quarterfinals in the Europa League.
The apparent feud had started when Onana was talking about the prospect of facing Lyon after Sunday’s goalless draw with Manchester City: “Of course it’s not going to be easy but I think we are way better than them.”
