Messi and Miami fail to score in 0-0 draw vs Chicago Fire in MLS

On the back of an impressive 3-1 win over Los Angeles in the CONCACAF Champions Cup Quarter final, Inter Miami were up against Chicago Fire in the MLS on game number 7 for the Herons this season. Miami was on 14 points prior to kick-off, and a win would’ve taken them to third position in the Eastern Conference. Lionel Messi, despite starting the game on the pitch alongside Luis Suarez, was surprisingly kept silent a side which hadn’t tasted victory in their last two games.
Messi started the game with a blering shot towards goal in the fourth minute, expertly tipped over the bar Chicago keeper Chris Brady. Throughout the game, the forward tried his luck on goal, to no avail. His first free kick ricocheted off the crossbar in the 64th minute, while his second in minute 78 failing to find the target.
Messi’s final attempt from a direct kick nearly crept its way into the net, but to Chicago’s luck, came off the woodwork.

Following the game, Miami sit in 5th spot in the Eastern Conference, with 15 points from 7 games. Having played a game less than the sides above them in the table, a win in their next League game against Columbus Crew will see them clinch top spot in MLS standings.
Despite shooting blanks in Monday’s game, the Argentine maestro is still on 8 goals and two asss in all competitions, with Miami also boasting the fact that they are yet to trail a game at half-time this season.
