WWE Wrestlemania 41 Day 1 results: Paul Heyman betrays CM Punk and Roman Reigns, hands the win to Seth Rollins | Hollywood News

WrestleMania 41 Day 1 had a flurry of exciting match-ups and memorable moments, many coming even before the anticipated main event. However, the main event superseded all other narratives as Paul ‘Wiseman’ Heyman shocked the WWE Universe siding with Seth Rollins in his triple threat match against CM Punk and Roman Reigns.
The night kicked off with Gunther defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Jey Uso in a singles match. Jey has always been at a disadvantage when it comes to sheer physicality, but this time around the former tag team champion showcased a different side altogether. Gunther was quite visibly taken aback as Jey refused to go down and made him dig deep into his bag for new moves against the ‘high-flyer’. Ultimately, Gunther fell prey to his own moves as Jey got him in a rear naked choke and made the heavyweight champion tap out, winning the championship.
In one of the most interesting bouts of the night, Tiffany Stratton successfully defended her WWE Women’s Title against the 14-time world champion Charlotte Flair. As the match progressed, Flair started losing patience and drained herself trying to end the match early. Stratton took advantage of this and moonsaulted her way to victory.

Jacob Fatu and LA Knight both showed elite athleticism and quality in their match for the United States Championship. Fatu targeted Knight’s midsection throughout the match, which had been injured a day prior on Smackdown. Knight came very close to retaining the title when he reversed Fatu’s reverse splash, but it wasn’t enough as Fatu displayed unprecedented agility and grit to take away the US title.
As the main event approached, fans were reminded of the backstory behind the match, including an emotionally driven highlight of CM Punk’s career in the WWE. Roman Reigns, CM Punk and Seth Rollins made use of the entire arena and took the fight to the stands, using barricades, steel bins and chairs to gain an upper hand. Every single move that exed in the three men’s repertoire was used and sometimes in dangerously small windows, but even then all three lay in the middle of the ring with nothing to separate them. Heyman, seeing this opportunity, grabbed a steel chair and gave it to CM Punk to finish the job, but in a defining moment, he hit Punk with a cheap shot from behind and went to Roman’s side.
Heyman had left Reigns for Punk after the latter cashed in the favour that was owed to him, but Heyman proceeded to break his word, and that wasn’t all. After ensuring Reigns took Punk out of the fight, Heyman betrayed him as well, giving the steel chair to Rollins, who finished the job. Heyman has made a career out of managing top talent in the business, and it seems, to him, that wasn’t either of the other two men. Rollins pulled off his finisher and won the match, as Heyman stood beside him, raising his hand in front of a shocked but entertained crowd.
