MP Farmer Dies After Waiting for Days to Sell Harvest; Second Death in 7 Days
Rajgarh: A 38-year-old Madhya Pradesh farmer suffered a cardiac arrest and died at an agriculture market in Rajgarh after allegedly waiting for three days in the scorching sun for his produce to be sold. This is the second such death in a week.
The farmer’s death triggered massive traffic jam on NH-12 with protesters demanding better facilities and speedy process at the Mandis, especially when the temperature is hovering above 45 degree in the state.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when Rajgarh district resident Omprakash Patidar collapsed at the Mandi in Narsinghgarh and died. However, Rajgarh district administration rubbished the reports of the farmer’s death due to the long wait in the sweltering heat.
They claimed that it was his brother, Peru, who was standing in the queue while Omprakash was there to deliver him food.
According to a district administration officer, Prakash died of cardiac arrest and he was declared dead when brought to the hospital.
Pointing out the loopholes in the system, a protester, Radhe Shyam said that the weighing facilities were manual and computer-generated bills were only available at one or two markets. He said that there was also lack in supply of drinking water.
Another protester, Ram Kishore, said that the agitators on the highway were only dispersed after the administration promised to look into their demands of installing water coolers, installing 20 weighing machines and provision for computer-generated bills.
A week ago, a 65-year-old farmer collapsed and died at an agricultural market in after waiting for four days for his crop to be weighed up and sold. The deceased farmer was identified as Moolchand Maina, resident of Bijukhedi village in the district.
