Chaos erupts as crowd overruns US-backed aid dribution centre in Gaza amid famine threat | World News

Chaos erupted in Gaza as thousands of Palestinians overran an aid dribution centre which was set up US backed and Israeli approved group Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’s (GHF) that began on Tuesday, after months of aid blockade Israel.
Videos, which went viral on social media, showed the dire condition of people in Gaza who torn-down fences and earth berms, climbed the barriers at the compound of the foundation in the southern city of Rafah, in order to procure food and aid supplies.
The foundation said at one point its members fell back after seeing the number of people seeking aid, which overwhelmed the process. The Israeli military said its troops fired multiple warning shots.

A CNN report quoted several residents who were trying to access the aid and they said they were happy with the food and supplies they received, but walking long dances to reach the dribution centre, long queues, and general confusion led to chaos like situation.

One of the aid seekers said, “The place is very far, and we struggled until we arrived. I am tired and exhausted. How can they provide food for all these people? There are too many people here; security will not be able to control them all,” CNN reported.

Since Israel blocked the supply of aid for almost three months, the danger of a widespread famine in Gaza was imminent which was earlier warned the World Health Organisation. Now, the GHF which uses armed American security, aims to pass the United Nations to become the main supplier of aid to Gaza.
The UN and several other aid groups refused to cooperate with GHF in its aid delivery in Gaza, as they allege its plans contradict humanitarian principles and also appear to “weaponise aid” process.
The UN had said videos from Rafah were “heartbreaking” and that it was ready with aid supplies for a “desperate population” of 2.1 million, BBC reported.
