Are the viral candle mourisers hazardous for your skin? Dermatolog explains | Life-style News

Even if you’re not a usual skincare fanatic or an internet buff, you might be aware of the significance mourising has for your skin. A candle mouriser, as the name suggests, has been going viral and refers to a mouriser made out of molten candle wax.
It’s a type of beauty product where a candle melts into a warm, liquid mouriser, often infused with essential oils and fragrances. You light the candle, allow the wax to melt, and then apply the melted wax as a body oil or lotion.
Are these mourisers dermatolog-approved?

While hot liquid might feel soothing initially, it doesn’t provide long-lasting hydration, says Dr Rinki Kapoor, Consultant Dermatolog, Cosmetic Dermatolog & Dermato-Surgeon, The Esthetic Clinics, Mumbai. Some liquid mourisers might contain wax that can clog pores and lead to breakouts. “Opt for lukewarm or room-temperature mourizers specifically designed for skincare”, she says.

These products are formulated to nourish your skin without posing any risks. Hot liquids also are more prone to contamination from bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms, she adds. The sudden temperature change can irritate the skin, leading to redness, inflammation, and discomfort. Burns can lead to scarring, pigmentation issues, and other long-term skin problems.
Moreover, exposing your skin to extreme temperatures can disrupt its natural protective barrier, making it more susceptible to dryness, irritation, and infection.
What are the benefits of mourisers?
Normal mourisers are designed to be applied to cool skin. Therefore, they are formulated with specific ingredients to hydrate, protect, and nourish the skin without causing harm.
Hot liquid mourisers, on the other hand, can be dangerously hot and can often contain ingredients that are unsuitable for direct skin application. Mourisers help repair the skin’s protective barrier, aiding in faster cell turnover and wound healing. Additionally, well-hydrated skin is less prone to wrinkles and fine lines. Some mourisers contain ingredients that can soothe inflammation and redness.
