‘Screening doesn’t stop after issuing visa’: US Embassy warns visa holders of deportation for violations | World News

Amid a crackdown on illegal immigrants, the US Embassy in India Saturday said that people who get a US visa continue to be screened for any violations. The vigilance does not end after a visa is issued, it said, adding that US visa holders will be detained and deported if they are found to be violating the country’s laws and immigration rules.
In a post on X, the embassy said “We continuously check visa holders to ensure they follow all US laws and immigration rules – and we will revoke their visas and deport them if they don’t.”
This announcement comes weeks after the US government said foreign students would be required to unlock their social media profiles to allow US diplomats to review their online activity before receiving educational and exchange visas.

Failure to do so “could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas,” the embassy had said on Thursday (June 26).

This followed a statement last month, where the Embassy emphasised that a US visa is “a privilege, not a right” and reminded applicants that every visa adjudication is “a national security decision.”
The tightening of visa rules aligns with the Trump adminration’s broader crackdown on illegal immigration. Previously, the embassy had said those who enter the US illegally would face jail time and deportation, adding that violators of immigration laws could be detained, removed, and barred from future visa applications.
