US embassy issues visa revocation warning as Indian woman is caught shoplifting in Illinois | World News

The US Embassy in India has issued a warning to visa holders and applicants, cautioning that crimes such as theft, assault, or burglary committed on American soil could lead to the immediate revocation of a visa and jeopardise future entry into the United States.
The advisory comes after reports that an Indian woman was recently caught shoplifting items worth approximately Rs 1.1 lakh (about $1,300) at a Target store in Illinois.
“Committing assault, theft, or burglary in the United States won’t just cause you legal issues — it could lead to your visa being revoked and make you ineligible for future US visas,” the embassy said in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“The United States values law and order and expects foreign visitors to follow all US laws,” the statement added. The embassy noted that criminal acts — even those perceived as minor — could carry long-term immigration consequences.
