WATCH: Fight breaks out in Mexican Senate between chamber president and opposition leader | World News

A brawl erupted in the Mexican Senate on Wednesday between the chamber’s president and an opposition leader with punches, pushing and shouting as the session was about to wrap up.
The fight in the Mexican Senate took place between Senate President Gerardo Fernandez Norona, of the ruling Morena party and Alejandro “Alito” Moreno, head of the opposition Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). The incident occurred when the lawmakers were singing the national anthem to mark the end of the day’s hearing.
During a press briefing later in the day, Fernandez Norona said the violence took place after a “difficult debate” in the Senate on the issue of armed forces from other countries present in Mexico, Reuters reported.

Norona responded saying, “Don’t touch me,” as the two started pushing each other as the brawl started. In the process, Moreno knocked over a photographer who was trying to diffuse the tension. Video shows total commotion in the Mexican Senate as other lawmakers and officials tried to control the situation.
As Norona tried to gather himself and get up, the video showed another lawmaker entering the frame and starting to swing at the Senate president.
“(Moreno) started pulling on me, touching me, pushing. He hit me and said, ‘I’m going to beat the shit out of you, I’m going to kill you’,” Fernandez Norona said. Moreno, in his defence, later said that Norona swung at him first.
Senate President Norona has said that he would call an emergency session on Friday and will propose a plan to expel Moreno and three other PRI lawmakers for the fight.
