US President Donald Trump tweets ‘Moon a part of Mars’, leaves Twitter in splits
Washington : US President Donald Trump’s Twitter feed has been a constant source of headlines for news media worldwide and he never ceases to disappoint.
Known for his no-holds-barred approach when taking the fight to opponents on Twitter, the Donald, on Friday, hit out at none other than US space agency -NASA.
Trump said NASA should stop talking about going to the moon as the feat has been achieved 50 years back and focus on “bigger things”. The tweet caused confusion as his government plans to restart moon landings by 2024. Earlier, Vice President Mike Pence announced plans to return to the moon by 2024.
“For all of the money we are spending, NASA should NOT be talking about going to the Moon – We did that 50 years ago,” Trump tweeted while on his way back from Europe.
However, the US President’s tweet was lampooned online for his choice of words.
“They (NASA) should be focused on the much bigger things we are doing, including Mars (of which the Moon is a part), Defense and Science!,” Trump wrote in the same post.
The exact meaning of Trump’s words remains unclear but it seems the US President implied that the US space agency should put more emphasis on a Mars landing with moon as a launch pad.
“They should be focused on the much bigger things we are doing, including Mars (of which the Moon is a part), Defense and Science!” Trump wrote.
NASA, which has already launched six Apollo missions to the moon between 1969 and 1972, says that “exploration of the Moon and Mars is intertwined.”
