CM, Min expresses grief over Girish Karnad’s demise
Chief Minister Kamal Nath and Culture Minister Vijaylaxmi Sadho have express profound grief over the passing away of well-known actor, film director, Kannada writer, playwriter and scholar, Girish Karnad. In his condolence message, Nath said that the creative journey which was going on enthusiastically for the past four decades has ended. Such extraordinary talent is born once in several years.
Nath said that the creative use of history and mythological stories by Late Karnad to tackle contemporary issues for a new awakening, has become a heritage of theatre and literature. The Chief Minister prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family, art community to bear the loss.
Culture, Medical Education and AYUSH Minister Vijailakshmi Sadho has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the country’s eminent actor, litterateur, theatre artist and multi-dimensional personality Girish Karnad. Sadho said that Madhya Pradesh had awarded Karnad with the National Kalidas Samman.
Sadho said that with the passing away of Padma awardee Karnad, an era of literature and cinema in the country has come to an end. He came out strongly in various political and social movements.
Late Karnad, who has played memorable roles in films like ‘Manthan’ and ‘Nishant’ has left an indelible mark in the Doordarshan show Malgudi Days. His plays including ‘Yayati’, ‘Tughlak’, ‘Hayavadana’, ‘The Dream of Tipu Sultan’ have been highly appreciated. Karnad has been honoured with the country’s prestigious awards in the form of a successful actor, film director, playwright and litterateur. He was conferred with the highest awards such as Sangeet Natak Akademi, Sahitya Akademi, Jnanpith etc. Culture Minister Sadho has prayed to God to grant peace to the departed soul and give strength to the family to bear the loss.
