US President Donald Trump has urged people celebrating Hanukkah not to be afraid and to continue marking the festival with pride, following the deadly shooting at Australia’s Bondi Beach that killed at least 11 people on Sunday.
Fox News reporter Peter Doocy said on air that he had spoken to Trump phone about the attack, which targeted the Jewish community during a Hanukkah event.
Quoting the president, Doocy said Trump’s message to those observing Hanukkah was that they “do not need to be worried” and should “celebrate proudly”.
The same message was later shared in a post on X, addressed to Jewish Americans preparing to celebrate the festival. “Be proud of who you are celebrate proudly,” the post said.
Australian police have declared the Bondi Beach shooting a terror incident. Authorities said the attack appeared to have been aimed at the Jewish community.
