Ambidextrous spinner Gregory Mahlokwana wows fans, picks wickets with both arms
South African spinner Gregory Mahlokwana left the audience in awe during his side Cape Town Blitz’s clash against Durban Heat in the Mzansi Super League on Monday after he dismissed two batsmen in the game by bowling with his left and right hand respectively. The spinner picked wickets using both hands displaying his ambidextrous skills as his side won the game by 10 runs.
Mahlokwana started off bowling as a right-hand spinner in the game when he got his first wicket in the form of Durban Heat opener Sarel Erwee. In the 8th over of the game, Mahlokwana’s flighted delivery was hit straight into the hands of George Linde at covers, who made no mistakes with the catch ensuring the departure of the batsman on 16 off 23 balls.
The spinner then changed his bowling stance against right-handers later in the innings as he bowled with his left hand. He picked up the wicket of right-handed Dane Vilas on the 5th ball of the tenth over as he clean bowled him with a quick delivery while bowling left-handed. His special skills wowed the fans in the stadium.
Mahlokwana bowled three overs in the game and finished with figures of 2/26. He helped his side restrict Durban Heat on 164 in their pursuit of the target of 175 runs. Talking about the game, batting first, Cape Town Blitz posted a good total of 174 runs on the board after crucial knocks of 43 runs each from Marques Ackerman and Asif Ali.
The opening pair of Quinton de Kock (17) and Janneman Malan (13) added only 20 runs for the first wicket before the wicket-keeper batsman was dismissed. However, Ackerman and Ali combined to steady the ship for the Blitz’s in the middle-order and helped their team reach a strong total.
In reply, Durban Heat rode on a brilliant 42-ball 83 from Wihan Lubbe but fell short in the chase after being restricted on 164/7 in 20 overs. Mahlokwana and Dale Steyn picked up two wickets apiece for Cape Town Blitz.
