Deepika Padukone recollects her last conversation with Sridevi: I developed a sense of familiarity and comfort
Deepika Padukone brought the entire airport to a standstill after she danced with Kartik Aaryan to Dheeme Dheeme at the airport yesterday. The stunner had taken off to New Delhi to launch a book on Sridevi along with Boney Kapoor and Gauri Shinde. Pictures from the event continue to go viral on social media that only makes ardent cine-goers miss the Hawa Hawai star of Bollywood even more. Often touted as the first female superstar of the country, Sridevi made a mark with his brilliant performances in Khuda Gawah, Chandini, Mr India, Lamhe and English Vinglish among others.
To celebrate the life of Sridevi, Deepika not only launched the book but also spoke about the beautiful equation she shared with the late diva. Revealing that Sridevi was like a mother figure to her, Deepika goes on to add that, “my relationship with Sridevi was beyond the movies. She was like a mother figure to me. After every single film of mine after Love Aaj Kal, I would get a call from Boney Kapoor and after he congratulated me, Sri would come on the line. I developed a sense of familiarity and comfort with her.”
Sridevi was in Abu Dhabi to attend the wedding of her nephew, Mohit Marwah. Post the celebrations, she headed to Dubai and passed away due to accidental drowning on February 28, 2018. The country mourned the superstar’s death with fans pouring in condolence messages to the family and her daughters.
During the event, Deepika also spoke about her last conversation with Sridevi before she headed off to Abu Dhabi. She said, “Maybe it was the South Indian connect. So much so, that my last conversation with her was about staff issues at home. So that’s the relationship we shared.”
While the world continues to miss Sridevi, she will always be remembered with the work she left behind for us.
