From Shah Rukh Khan to Deepika Padukone: 7 Bollywood stars who remained absent from silver screen in 2019

Like every year, 2019, too, saw the release of a barrage of Hindi films. Yet, some of the topmost stars of the industry remained absent from the silver screen. From Shah Rukh Khan to Deepika Padukone, there were at least seven Bollywood stars who did not register their presence at the box office. For true-blue movie lovers, whose film choices are not influenced by their favourite stars, it must have been hardly a matter of concern. But for fans, it has been a long, long wait that might come to an end only next year. Here, taking a look at Bollywood stars who did not turn up at cinemas in 2019…

Shah Rukh Khan

Leave alone not releasing a film, Shah Rukh Khan did not even announce his next project this year. Blame it on the box-office debacle of his last release Zero or his reluctance in taking up a new project, SRK, after many years, did not have a cinematic outing in a single year.

Ranbir Kapoor

Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra, the film Ranbir Kapoor has been busy with for nearly two years, is yet not ready. It was initially slated for an Independence Day 2019 release; was later moved to Christmas 2019, and then to Summer 2020. According to Dharma Productions, the co-producers of the high-budget venture, the extensive VFX work on the film is causing the delay in its release.

Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone, who was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, has been absent from the big screen for nearly two years now. Imagine! The actress possibly took a break to have ample time on her plate for her wedding to Ranveer Singh last year. She will be seen next in Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak, which is slated for a January 10, 2020 release.

Anushka Sharma

Anushka Sharma was last seen in Aanand L Rai’s Zero, alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif. Not much is known about her break from films this year. The actress has not announced her next project either.

Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan’s non-attendance at the movies this year was no surprise. It’s no secret that Mr Perfectionist of Bollywood takes at least two years to make a film. Aamir’s last project Thugs of Hindostan released in 2018. His next, Laal Singh Chaddha, is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on Christmas 2020.

Sara Ali Khan

Sara Ali Khan made her big-screen debut with Kedarnath that released on December 7 last year. Three weeks after that, she had her second release, the Ranveer Singh-starrer Simmba. For the chirpy actress, 2019 was just about work, which will come out only next year. Her upcoming releases are Imtiaz Ali’s yet-untitled love story, co-starring Kartik Aaryan, and Coolie No. 1, that has Varun Dhawan paired opposite her.

Janhvi Kapoor

Janhvi Kapoor, who also made her big-screen debut in 2018, had no release this year. But in 2020, the actress will have at least two releases in the form of Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl and RoohiAfza. Two of her other films, Dostana 2 and Bombay Girl, might also make it to cinemas next year.
