IPL 2020: List of players released, traded, retained by Delhi Capitals along with remaining auction purse
Delhi Capitals (DC) pulled off two of the biggest trade deals ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 player auction. The Capitals roped in veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin from Kings XI Punjab and traded spinners Mayank Markande, Rahul Tewatia for Indian Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane from Rajasthan Royals. Delhi Capitals have a strong core of Indian players and will be eyeing majority of overseas picks in the player auction.
Not expected to make it to the playoffs last season, the Shreyas Iyer-led side surprised many with their strong show. The Capitals qualified for the knockouts but failed to make it to the finals after losing in the 2nd Eliminator against Chennai Super Kings. With the acquisitions of two experienced players in Ashwin and Rahane, Delhi Capitals will be aiming to go all the way next season.
Delhi Capitals released nine players ahead of the player auction which included the likes of Chris Morris, Colin Munro and Hanuma Vihari among others. They also let go of New Zealand pacer Trent Boult, who picked up five wickets in five games last season. Boult was traded to Mumbai Indians for Markande, who was later traded off to Rajasthan Royals.
Delhi Capitals have a formidable core of Indian players consisting of the likes of Ashwin, Rahane, Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw. However, with five overseas slots to fill, DC will have to make some shrewd foreign picks in the auction. Along with Boult’s replacement, Delhi Capitals will also be eyeing a good overseas all-rounder at the auction.
