Is India Celebrating Its 77th Or 78th Republic Day on 26 January? Check here

Republic Day 2026: With January 26 fast approaching, India is preparing to celebrate its most significant national holiday, Republic Day, which marks the establishment of the Indian Constitution.
While India gained independence on August 15, 1947, a Drafting Committee was formed approximately two weeks later to design the Indian Constitution, with Dr B.R. Ambedkar as its chairman.
The Indian Constitution was finally completed and enacted on November 26, 1949, often known as “Constitution Day”.

And three years later, i.e. January 26, 1950, the country formally approved its constitution and became a republic, and since then India celebrates Republic Day.
However, there is a point of confusion: Is this year India’s 77th or 78th Republic Day?
This year, India will celebrate its 77th Republic Day on January 26, 2026, which falls on a Monday.
The primary event of the day, the Republic Day Parade, will showcase the country’s cultural diversity and military strength and will be held in the capital, New Delhi.
The Republic Day Celebrations 2026, scheduled for January 26 at Kartavya Path, will commemorate 150 years of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ as the central theme of the parade, showcasing India’s military strength alongside its rich cultural heritage.Story continues below this ad
