The Income Tax department’s e-filing portal allows taxpayers to rectify errors made, if any, while filing income tax returns (ITRs) on the portal. If incorrect details are entered, taxpayers, besides receiving notice from the IT department, also stand to lose their tax refunds. A salaried individual should, therefore, be extremely careful while filing his/her ITR and, after submitting return, check if all details provided in the form were correct, and rectify errors, if any.Also Read: Entered incorrect information while filing ITR? Here’s how to rectify the errorsCitizens can also check the rectification status on the e-filing portal. Just follow these steps:(1.) Go to incometax.gov.in/iec/focportal.(2.) On the dashboard, go to ‘Services’, ‘Rectification Request’ and ‘Rectification Status’.(3.) Now, click on ‘Rectification Request Number’ to view the rectification details.(4.) Against the request number, go to ‘View Details’.(5.) The request status will be displayed as Submitted/Completed/Rejected/In Progress/Condonation of Delay Request Accepted/e-submission re-enabled by AO.The last day to make tax payment for financial year 2021-22 and assessment year 2022-23 was July 31. Unlike previous years, the Union government did not extend the due date. In total, the IT department received around 5.83 crore returns, including a record 72.42 lakh on the final day.
