‘Aaj maine khud ko ullu bana diya’: Suryakumar Yadav reveals story of wrband to Tilak Varma | Cricket News
Suryakumar Yadav blitzed a 44-ball 83 on Tuesday in the third T20I against West Indies to help India win the match. The stylish stroke maker played some of his trademark shots all around the ground as India opened their account in the T20I series to make it 2-1 after two back to back losses.
After the game, his partner in crime Tilak Varma with whom Surya built an 87-run match-winning partnership, revealed that the latter had a wrband on which it was written: “Give yourself time in the powerplay.”
However, Surya started his innings with a bang as he scored a four and a six off the first two balls.
“Sometimes, you have to play bluff with yourself. Aaj maine khud ko ullu bana diya (I tricked myself today)! I thought I would take time and peak slowly,” Surya said speaking on BCCI TV.
“But then I thought I would play to the team’s requirement, and didn’t do anything different. I enjoyed myself and loved batting with the star (Tilak Varma),” he added.
“Wicket was pretty slow today, so I thought of taking calculated risks. I received some loose balls and waited for the ball to come,” Tilak said about his batting.
Courtesy of Surya’s knock, India claimed a seven-wicket win in the third T20I against the West Indies at the Providence Stadium in Guyana to pull back the series 2-1.
Chasing 160, Hardik Pandya and Varma sealed the deal with 13 deliveries to spare and kept the series alive with two more games to be played.
Brandon King (42) and Rovman Powell (40) were the bright sparks for the WI as the hosts posted 159/5 batting first against India. For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers, managing to pick up three wickets to continue his impressive run in white-ball cricket.
