Actor Aamir Khan is a true businessman in the sense that he knows that selling a movie is almost as important as making one. His next film, Sitaare Zameen Par, which is a sequel to Taare Zameen Par (2007), is coming out on June 20, and in a unique promotional move, Aamir decided to showcase his commentary chops during the IPL final between RCB and PBKS. The actor joined the Hindi commentators Suresh Raina and Aakash Chopra to share his two cents on the biggest match of the season, but things did not exactly go to plan.

Aamir is an effective actor and producer, but his commentary skills weren’t exactly appreciated the fans watching the final. The fans were divided about the actor for using this opportunity to promote his film, although this critique seems to be born out of tension and anticipation regarding the match. Fans went as far as starting a hashtag titled “Please remove Aamir Khan from the Hindi Commentary”. A user on X blamed the Star Sports network and commented, “This is the most useless practice Star Sports.” Interestingly, Aamir’s other collaborations with cricket have gone over well with the public, for example, the Dream11 ad series with Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and more.

Rahul Dholakia tweets about Aamir’s commentary
Among those who commented on Aamir’s commentary, albeit indirectly, was Raees director Rahul Dholakia. Without naming the actor, he wrote, “Yaar picture ka promotion karo gyaam mat baato. I want KOHLI to win this year and Zinta to win next year! Both these passionate people deserve to win- for their sheer persence!” However, as fans responded and asked how Aamir is doing anything different from what all actors do during promotional cycle, he deleted the post.

During the match, the ‘perfection’ Aamir was asked about his upcoming movie and which players in today’s game could be considered ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’. The actor answered candidly that he always thought Sachin Tendulkar was worthy of that dinction, but currently he believes Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah to be stars and “perfections”.
